Éric Lachance

President and Chief Executive Officer

Professional background
Éric Lachance joined Énergir in 2017 and has acted as President and CEO since January 2020. Committed to the energy transition, Éric Lachance thinks of energy not as a product, but as a service that must best meet various needs, including moving towards a lower-carbon economy.  For Mr. Lachance, the transformation of the energy world over the next 20 years will be a source of challenges that will require creativity and adaptability.

Previously, Mr. Lachance worked for the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ), notably in Paris, as Regional Director - Europe, where he headed the team responsible for managing the monitoring and valuation of CDPQ's European infrastructure investment portfolio. As part of his duties, he represented the Caisse on the boards of directors and supervisory boards of several companies, including Fluxys Belgium, Colonial Pipeline, Keolis and Heathrow Airport.

The Company
As an energy provider committed to the heart of the energy transition, Énergir meets the energy needs of the communities it serves in Quebec and Vermont. As Quebec’s leading natural gas distributor, the company relies on innovation to diversify its operations, notably through wind power generation via joint ventures, as well as the development of energy solutions such as geothermal energy. By leveraging its natural gas infrastructure—combined with energy efficiency, dual-fuel (electricity and natural gas) systems, and compressed natural gas (CNG)—Énergir offers concrete solutions that contribute to decarbonization while ensuring the resilience of the energy system.

Among his priorities, Éric Lachance aims to engage with local suppliers of goods and services recognized for their advanced practices in artificial intelligence, diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), third-party risk management (TPRM), as well as with businesses from Indigenous communities. When it comes to services, he prefers specialized suppliers with in-depth expertise in their field rather than those offering general services.

Expenses related to this virtual initiative are minimal. Nearly all revenues generated are donated to the IRCM Foundation, whose mission is to support basic and clinical research at the Institut de recherches cliniques de Montréal (IRCM).

Researchers at the IRCM, grouped around 4 major themes, are working to deepen our knowledge of almost all the major diseases of our time: cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular, genetic or inflammatory diseases, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, to name but a few. Physicians at the IRCM Clinic care for patients living with complex or rare diseases that require ultra-specialized follow-up.
